Try-outs Information

Any player looking to attend our training sessions will have to first attend a try-out. Try-outs are how our coaches will assess your volleyball level and experience to place you in the team they feel will best fit you.

This year, we are going to have 3 weeks of try-outs, where coaches will assess players both individually and in team / game situations.

How to register

To attend our try-outs, please join our Spond App and pay a fee of £7 for each try-out session you attend.

How to register on Spond:

-   Search for “Bristol Volleyball Club” or code BGJDA or using this link https://group.spond.com/BGJDA.

-  We will approve your request and you’ll be able to see all the sessions and payment method. We might also use Spond for important communications so please make sure you keep an eye out.

Try-outs Format & Schedule

ree

*Please note that due to unforeseen circumstances, this schedule might be subject to changes.

 Week 1 & Week 2

Existing players

-   Due to high demand, players are only allowed to attend one try-out session between week 1 and week 2.

-    Players may only attend try-outs for the level immediately above last season’s team (e.g., Men's 4 players may try out for Men's 3, but not for Men's 2 or Men's 1), unless specifically invited by a coach.

-   If you attend a try-out that does not fit your level, you will still be offered a place in a team that better fits your level.

New Players

-    New players are allowed to attend one try-out session on Week 1 and one try-out session on week 2.

-    If you attend a try-out that does not fit your level, you will still be offered a place in a team that better fits your level.

-    Week 3 – 25th to 30th August – Final Selections:

This week’s intention will be to polish team placement decisions and to give the opportunity for people who were unable to attend Week 1 and Week 2 – this week will be by invite only by the coaches.

Please refer to the below Self-Assessment Guide to determine which try-outs session you should attend. If you can’t make it to Week 1 or Week 2 please message us so we can invite you for week 3.

Important information

-    Try-out fee: £7 for each try-out session you attend.

-    Each try-out session will have a maximum of 16 players attending.

-     If you are unable to attend any try-out session, please email membership@bristolvc.org.uk. We cannot guarantee you a place in a team, however we will try our best to offer you a try-out with a team when the season starts.

-  Team selections are made by the coaches. We understand that the results can sometimes be disappointing, however please understand that we have many players looking to join the club and hard decisions will have to be made by the coaches. Please also understand that if you do make a team, you will not be guaranteed game time in every fixture.

-     If you are a beginner (adult or youth), you do not need to attend a try-out (more information below).

-    If you are under 18 years old you can try-out for an adult team, however, we highly recommend that you only do this if you are a very experienced player. For intermediate and experienced Youth players, please attend the Under 18s Advanced try-out sessions.

For anyone under 18 attending any try-out session, you will need to complete a consent form. Please email us at membership@bristolvc.org.uk. No youth players will be allowed to attend try-outs without a consent form.

What’s my Level – Self-Assessment Guide

As a reference, we have created a self-assessment guide to help you decide which team better fits your level.

*Please note that this is just a guide and all players are subject to try-outs before being accepted into any team. More information on try-outs below.

Development and Youth Teams – Come & Have a Go Sessions

If you are a beginner (adult or youth) or a lower intermediate player, you do not need to attend a try-out. We’ll be running ‘Come and Have a Go’ sessions starting the week of September 1st for both Youth and Adult Development players. These sessions are designed for newcomers and those looking to build their confidence and skills in a friendly, supportive environment.

Please note: Due to high demand, attending these sessions does not guarantee a place on our development teams. However, everyone who takes part will be added to our waiting list, and spaces will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis as they become available.

These sessions are a great way to get involved in Volleyball, learn or develop your skills and game knowledge. You’ll also be able to meet new people and get involved with the Club!

We will release a schedule the Adult and Youth ‘Come and have a Go’ Sessions running on the first week of September later on the month.

Summer Sessions

We are still running FREE outdoor grass sessions until September. If you are interested in getting involved and are not yet part of the club, please add yourself to our Spond group, which we will use to invite you for the sessions (see above instructions). There will be sessions open to all levels.

These sessions are a great way to play volleyball, meet new people, get involved with the club and have loads of fun!
